‘Vers la mer’ - Annik Leroy (1999, 87’)
20:30

Vers la mer meanders through Europe, very much like the Danube itself, which snakes over areas that were once at war. The film shows landscapes and encounters between the filmmaker and the inhabitants of the river banks. They form the voices of this film and, in combination with Leroy’s meditative camera work, take us on a journey that once again connects West to East.

+ Film of choice: ‘Cargo’ - Laura Waddington (2001, 29’)

A journey made by a cargo ship and its poorly paid Romanian and Polish workers who deliver cargo to the Middle East. Waddington follows crewmembers trapped on their ship killing time waiting, singing karaoke or telling the filmmaker stories in a small television room. The film is a reflection on what it means to be a citizen without a country, wandering without destination.
