Eric Baudelaire - ‘The Anabasis of May and Fusako Shigenobu, Masao Adachi and 27 Years without Images’ (2011, 66’)
20:30

In this filmic essay, Baudelaire has landscapes of Beirut and Tokyo resonate with the memories of the Japanese new wave filmmaker Masao Adachi and those of Maya Shigenobu, the daughter of a leading Red Army activist. Through the landscapes, the radical fighters speak about everyday life, exile, politics and film.

+ Film of choice: L’Ambassade’ (1973, 20’) - Chris Marker

L’ambassade is a fictional found footage film and shows political dissidents who seek refuge in a foreign embassy after a military coup in an unidentified country. Over the next days more and more students, intellectuals, artists and politicians join the group. A filmic logbook that is carefully composed of anecdotes of the gloomy everyday life of the so-called fugitives.
