Lies & Excess  (1998, 15') - Peggy Ahwesh

Lies & Excess is made from the abandoned 16-mm film fragments of what eventually became The Star Eaters—and even though each work was conceived separately, they share much of the same artistic DNA. Atlantic City, which is rendered by the artist as a failed capitalist utopia where gamblers, sex workers, vacationers, and locals live together (on occasion happily, but most of the time not), is the setting and subject for both pieces.

Witch’s Cradle (1943, 12') - Maya Deren

The Witch's Cradle is an unfinished Maya Deren film made in the Guggenheim Gallery during a surrealist "Art of this Century" exhibit. It was assembled long after her death by staffers within the preservation department at Anthology Film Archives. ~ David Lewis, All Movie Guide

The Deadman (1989, 36') - Peggy Ahwesh

Made in collaboration with Keith Sanborn, The Deadman is based on a story by Bataille, charting "the adventures of a near-naked heroine who sets in motion a scabrous free-from orgy before returning to the house to die — a combination of elegance, raunchy defilement and barbaric splendor." — Jonathan Rosenbaum, Chicago Reader.
